Careers on Wheels | Connecting Students in Our Schools to Careers in Our Community

tow truck driver talking with group of students

The LSR7 Careers on Wheels event took place on Wednesday, April 2, at the Legacy Park Baseball Complex.  Classes of 3rd-grade students visited six business partners during their time at the event to learn about the careers associated with the wheels on the lot. We had dozens of business partners with their wheels sharing with over 1,300 students throughout the day!

The Lee’s Summit Animal Control officer stole the show this year by bringing a baby raccoon to the event for students to see. She described rescuing this little guy, as well as her tools used each day to do her job.

Jim’s Big Tow Service (photo above) came to show off their tow truck! The students loved seeing the bed raise and lower.

A special thanks to Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation for allowing us to use the Legacy Park Baseball Complex for this event and for being there early to help us get the facility ready for our students! They also showed off several wheels they use each day to maintain our parks and green spaces! Sam had the students dancing and giggling all day!

We’d like to thank these business partners for their participation in our event: Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation, the City of Lee’s Summit (police department, fire department, animal control, water utilities, streets & maintenance), KC Bubble Parties, the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Missouri Department of Transportation, Jackson County Park Rangers, Galvan’s Lawn and Landscape, John Knox Village, Jim’s Big Tow, LSR7 Athletic Trainers, Pedal Kids, Bledsoe Rentals, Cynda Sells Real Estate, and the Independence Water Department.

If you want to participate in our event for the spring of 2026, please email Kimberly Sterne, Career Navigator, at kimberly.sterne@lsr7.net!
