Careers on Wheels | Connecting Students in Our Schools to Careers in Our Community
In LSR7, we want students to EXPLORE as they learn about who they are and what is possible for their future. One new way we are helping students EXPLORE is an event called Careers on Wheels! The inaugural Careers on Wheels took place on Thursday, March 28th, at the Legacy Park Baseball Complex. Classes of 3rd-grade students visited six business partners during their time at the event to learn about the careers associated with the wheels on the lot. We had 20 business partners with their wheels sharing with over 1,200 students throughout the day! We had everything from ATVs used by the Jackson County Park Rangers to an SUV used by Bryan Izydorek as a REMAX Realtor to a boat used by the Missouri Department of Conservation!
The Evergy crew got students excited about careers in energy. They showed students the gear they use each day to protect themselves on the job. They wowed students by raising the bucket on the boom truck high into the sky!
Another partner, the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City, brought their blood donation bus so students could learn about the importance of blood donation. Students were able to go inside the bus to learn how this process works!
Dan from KC Bubble Parties shared the science behind creating bubbles and how his small business originated during the pandemic. After his talk, he created some big bubbles which students loved trying to pop!
A special thanks to Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation for allowing us to use the Legacy Park Baseball Complex for this event and for being there early to help us get the facility ready for our students! They also showed off several wheels they use each day to maintain our parks and green spaces! Sam had the students dancing and giggling all day!
